Heavy Goods Vehicles

From transporting goods for hire and reward, moving waste or moving their own goods, there are a variety of ways that businesses use large commercial vehicles

Our specialist heavy goods vehicle policy was created with these needs in mind and is tailored for your clients with large commercial vehicles.

The policy includes
  • UK/EU breakdown assistance
  • Uninsured loss recovery
  • Windscreen repair and replacement
  • Options for Comprehensive and TPF&T cover
  • Laid up cover (as long as the vehicle is SORN and kept in a secure yard with a locked gate)
  • Foreign use both annual and temporary with the provision of electronic Green Cards
  • Loss or damage cover for skips whilst attached or detached when taking out a skip and waste policy.
  • Cover for the carriage of hazardous goods up to a maximum of 5% of turnover, excluding classes 1 & 7, 2.1 & 2.3
  • Cover for vehicles up to a maximum of £200,000 gross train value
What we cover
  • Vehicles 5 tonne gross vehicle weight or above that require an operators licence
  • Vans including service vans when accompanied by a large heavy goods vehicle and do not makeup more than 50% of the overall risk
  • Hire and reward use – general haulage, freight
  • Continental haulage
  • Heavy haulage up to 100T GVW including the carriage of plant 
  • Own goods use – builders, scaffolders and allied trades
  • Livestock transport (breakdown assistance excluded)
  • New ventures – subject to sight of a 2 year claim free driving letter from the proprietor
  • Skip and waste, recycling and scrap metal dealers 
  • Non hazardous tanker operators
  • Removal contractors
  • Tipper operators
What we normally decline
  • Concrete mixers
  • Breakdown and recovery vehicles
  • Van only risks
  • Couriers inc’ express parcel and mail delivery
  • Carriage of hazardous goods exceeding 5% of turnover or whist carrying goods within categories 1 & 7, 2.1 and 2.3
  • Drivers under 21 years of age
  • Vehicles with performance related modifications
  • Risks without a valid operators licence 
  • Skip and waste risks without a valid waste carriers licence
  • Vehicle and caravan transportation
  • Boat transportation
  • Vehicles with “Q” registration numbers
